Dark Amelia
Amelia Island, Florida

About

Amelia Island has always had excellent manners.

That is how it gets away with things.

Dark Amelia is a Summer 2026 art project in five true stories, all haunted by public records. It is part local history, part Southern Gothic archive, part courthouse file, part ghost story, and part raised eyebrow across a very polite room.

The project begins with five stories:

Some of these stories come from court records. Some come from newspapers. Some come from arrest reports, old rumors, family memory, city documents, public meetings, and the strange little places where civic history goes to avoid eye contact.

This is not a gossip site.

It is not a booster brochure.

It is not a ghost tour, though there will be ghosts.

Dark Amelia is interested in the space between what a town knows, what a town says, and what a town politely pretends not to remember.

Names may be used when they are already part of the public record and necessary to the story. Names may also be left out when the story is not really about a person, but about a pattern.

Corrections are welcome. Receipts are adored. Threats are boring.

If you have a document, a memory, a tip, a correction, a family legend, an old clipping, a photograph, a court file, or a story that has been sitting too long in the polite fog, you may submit it.

Dark Amelia is not here to ruin the island.

The island has always been more interesting than that.
